We are working to develop “systems biology and medicine” to understand biological systems by functional genomics approach. Novel technology and new types of algorithms are required for collecting, integrating and visualizing the enormous amount of data on gene expression, protein expression, and protein interactions arising in the wake of the Human Genome Project. Alliance with outside academics and industries will be crucial to the success of the new "systems biology", i.e., understanding biological systems as more than the sum of their parts.

The main areas of research are

§	1.Systems biology of cancer
	In this project, we explore key molecules in lung and stomach cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma as major lethal diseases in Japan, through grobal analysis of gene expression.
§	2.Technology development for genomic data acquisition
	Study to reveal pathogenesis of intractable diseases such as oligodendroglioma and cerebral ischemic disease through profiling gene expression.
§	3.Bioinformatics
	The aim of this project is to reveal biological events in deseases with bioinformatically approach through integration of Laboratory Original Database of gene expression data with public database of genome, cDNA alignment and onontogenic information.
